Kassena Nankana DCE confirmed

Thursday brought to an end protracted disapprovals of President John Mahama’s nominees for District Chief Executive position for the Kassena Nankana West District as assembly members finally arrived at a decision and a choice.

Mr George Nonterah, who crossed the margin for a second chance confirmation voting, was duly sworn in as District Chief Executive Officer (DCE).

Mr Nonterah pulled 51 votes constituting 79.7 per cent and 12 members voted against him.

The assembly had, on three occasions, failed to confirm the President’s nominee, the first being incumbent DCE Mr Thomas Dalu who was rejected twice and later Mr Nonterah who suffered a first rjection.

Mr Nonterah, 66, retired educationist, appealed to assembly members to team up with him to address the special needs of the people of the area.

Later in an interview with the GNA, the DCE said he would work hard to reduce teacher absenteeism in schools in the district by offering logistical support to ensure teachers fulfilled their contact hours with their students.

He acknowledged the rate of alcoholism among the youth and teachers in the area and gave the assurance that he was committed to ensure that the trend reduced.

The confirmation of the DCE was preceded by the swearing in of 20 appointed government assemblymen.
