Red Cross calls for First Aid training for drivers

Red CrossThe Upper West Regional branch of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS) has suggested to the government to organize mandatory First Aid training programmes for all drivers.

This, the society said, would minimize the high fatalities in motor accidents.

Alhaji Yahaya  Bashirudeen, Chairman of the Regional Committee of the GRCS, gave the suggestion at the inauguration of the re-constituted committee at Wa on Thursday.

He appealed to the government to also ensure that all government organizations install First Aid boxes in their outfits and to also have their staff trained in administering First Aid.

He promised to lead his executives to move the society forward in the region by ensuring that its activities are efficiently promoted to enable it achieve its goals.

Mr. Joseph Bog-yena, the Regional Programmes Manager of the Society, said the GRSC was collaborating with its partners to train First Aid volunteers to offer services when accidents occur in the region.

He expressed regret that out of the 950 volunteers and members in the region only about 10 per cent of the number were active and paying their dues regularly.
