Eastern Regional chiefs to build office

The Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has launched a project to raise two million Ghana Cedis towards the construction of new office complex in Koforidua.

The building when completed would have rooms for staff, plenary sessions, a two-storey apartment for resting rooms, guest rooms and a car park.

Launching the project in Koforidua on Saturday, the Okyehene, Osagyefuo Amotia Ofori Panin, who is also the President of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs, said the provision of the new facility had become necessary as the current one was too small and outmoded.

He said the current office block lacked facilities and not fitted for the chiefs to use as office accommodation in modern chieftaincy administration.

The Okyehene appealed to the business community, chiefs, individuals, philanthropists and all those who have the chieftaincy institutions at heart to contribute to make the project a reality.

Barima Adjei Twinie, Dwantuahene of Akyem Abuakwa, and the Chairman of the Building Project Committee, said they would need GH¢800,000 to start the first phase of the project.

He said very soon the project Committee would be reaching out to the business community and others for support in the form of building materials and cash.

Barima Adjei Twinie said even though Eastern Region was considered as heterogeneous in nature and shares traditional borders, there had never been any conflict among the traditional areas as happening in other regions.

He urged chiefs in the region to continue to cooperate with each other in order to sustain the existing peaceful environment.

The Okyehene and the Nkosuohemaa of Akyem Apedwa, pledged GH¢10,000 each to support the project with additional GH¢20,000 from the House of Chiefs as Seed Capital.
