British Council Ghana celebrates 70th Anniversary

Ghana flagsBritish Council Ghana will on October 1, begin its 70th anniversary celebration in Accra on the theme: “Breaking barriers; connecting people.”

A statement issued by Mr Moses Anibaba Director, British Council, and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the theme of the celebration was designed to enhance British Council’s strategic vision of creating opportunities for the youth with a focus on United Kingdom and Ghana.

“For decades now, Ghanaians home and abroad have benefited a lot from the British Council through flagship educational programmes such as the challenge reality show and quality UK postgraduate studies,” it added.

Speaking on the organisation’s seven decades in Ghana Mr Anibaba expressed admiration over the dynamic role British Council had played in the past years in creating innovative programmes and projects to suit the needs of its target audience.

He said there are various activities scheduled to recall the long month celebration beginning with an anniversary launch and press soiree on Tuesday October 1.

On October 4, there will be a public lecture at the main auditorium by Dr Joyce Aryee, former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Chamber of Mines on the topic: “Career and Personal development.”

On October 16, there will be a second lecture on leadership and entrepreneurship. There will also be a third public lecture on business development know how by Dr Michael Agyekum-Addo, CEO of KAMA Pharmaceuticals and Group of Companies.

On October 18, British Council will hold its 5th CIE Attached Centres Awards Night to celebrate students’ academic excellence.

In partnership with MUSIGA, British council will also hold a concert at Tamale dubbed: “UK in Tamale,” on November, 1.

Mr Anibaba said the anniversary would be crowned with an anniversary cocktail dinner to recapture achievements chalked out over the years.
