FUSSAG suspends strike action

legonThe Federation of University Senior Staff Associations of Ghana (FUSSAG) has announced the suspension of its 50-day strike action.

A statement signed by the General Secretary, Mr Jacob Emmanuel Eshun, in Kumasi, said the decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC).

It cited the resumption of talks with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and assurance by the Vice Chancellors of Ghana (VCG) to facilitate the resolution of their grievances as reasons for pulsing the industrial action.

The Federation, however, warned that its members would be forced to withdraw their services again if “all outstanding issues” remained unresolved by October 28.

FUSSAG has been on strike since August 19 over the payment of market premium, health hazard and other allowances as well as electricity subsidy.

The statement said the Federation was satisfied with the strong commitment by the VCG to play lead role in the resolution of its demands.

It said it was now up to the government and the FWSC to take the necessary steps to get things done within the given deadline.

The Federation pledged to cooperate to find a peaceful end to the impasse.
