Bar owners cautioned against luring employees into prostitution

prostitutionMr Kwabena Yeboah, a drinking bar operator, has warned drinking bar owners to desist from luring female attendants into prostitution.

He alleged that many of the drinking bar owners in the country engaged girls at their facilities to help operate the bars only to lure them into prostitution.

Mr Yeboah, Manager of Brotherman Spot at Pataase in the Kumasi Metropolis, said this at a meeting of the Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regional branches of Drinking Bar Operators Association in Sunyani on Tuesday.

He said the practice was an offence which could be likened to trafficking.

Mr Yeboah alleged that some of the bar operators personally bought indecent dresses for their employees to attract customers, especially at the weekend, and lured them into sex for a fee.

He alleged that some drinking bar operators in the Kumasi Metropolis also demanded to have sex with girls before engaging them to work at their facilities.

The irony was that after having their way with the girls, many of the bar operators failed to engage them, he said, adding that the situation was a major contributory factor to the high rate of commercial sex workers in the metropolis.

Mr Yeboah appealed to the relevant institutions to investigate the matter as some of the victims were ready to assist to get the perpetrators prosecuted.
