Ga South to build blood bank
The Driver and Vehicle License Authority (DVLA) has donated 200 bags of cement costing Ghc320,000 to the Ga South Health Directorate to build a Blood Bank for the Ga South District Hospital.
Mr Rudolph Beckley, Chief Executive Officer of DVLA, said the donation was as a result of a request from the Directorate for support.
He said considering the Hospital’s location along a major highway, the blood bank was very vital because the facility might be handling accident victims.
“We equally believe that when the facility is in place, victims will not suffer unduly from non-availability of blood and this is our widow’s mite to support the Directorate to construct a District Blood Bank to facilitate work at the Hospital,” he said.
He gave the assurance that the donation was the beginning of collaboration between his outfit and the Hospital and pledged that the DVLA was committed to providing more assistance.
Ms Jacqueline Sfarijlani, the Acting Medical Director of Health Services, Ga South Directorate, thanked the DVLA for the support.
Ms Sfarijlani said the hospital decided to build the bank because sometimes it was difficult to get blood from Korle Bu Blood Bank and expressed the hope that the facility would be completed by the end of the year and appealed for support from organisations and corporate bodies.
“We will continue to appeal to other donors to support us and enable us continue to save precious lives,” she said.
