Armed robbers attack Ghana National College
Six armed robbers in the early hours of Monday attacked the teachers’ flats of Ghana National College in Cape Coast and seriously injured two teachers.
The robbers, armed with machetes, knives and guns, made away with an unspecified amount of money, mobile phones, laptops and other personal effects.
Mr Alfred Arhin Paintsil, a Government tutor who sustained multiple machete wounds on his body, is currently on admission at the Central Regional Hospital, while Mr Richmond Bentum, an Information Communication Technology (ICT) teacher, who also suffered wounds on various parts of his body, was treated and discharged.
Narrating the incident to the GNA, Mr Paintsil said the attack started after midnight whiles he was asleep when three of the robbers one masked and two unmasked, with machete and guns, broke into his bedroom demanding that he surrender all his money to them.
He said he was frightened due to the sudden intrusion and could not recollect the exact place he had kept his money.
Mr Paintsil said he was severely beaten till he directed them to his wardrobe where he had kept some money and this they took away in addition to his laptop.
Mr Wisdom Apedo, a Chemistry teacher who took the victims to the hospital, said at about 01:24 hrs, he received a telephone call from a colleague on the block alerting him of the attack and he called the police.
He said the Kotokuraba Police arrived five minutes after the call, but by then the robbers had already left the scene.
Mr Apedo said the 15 Flats block, which is currently being occupied by seven teachers, has no security protection.
Some of the staff expressed displeasure about the security situation in the school, saying they no longer felt secured in the area.
The incident led to the interruption of classes in the morning as the teachers, still in shock, could not attend classes.
ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, Commander of the Kotokuraba Police, confirmed the robbery and said investigations are underway.
