Three envoys call on President Mahama
Three Ambassadors who had completed their duty tour of the country on Friday called on President John Dramani Mahama to announce their return to their countries.
The Ambassadors are; Andrea Samadeni, Swiss Ambassador in-charge of Ghana, Togo and Benin, Olga Cabarga Gomez- out-going Spanish Ambassador, and Mr Rudolf P. Von Ballmoos, Liberian Ambassador.
President Mahama who received them at the Flagstaff House, Kanda gave the assurance that his administration would leverage all the international cooperations that had exist between Ghana and other countries for mutual benefits.
On Switzerland, President Mahama said it forms part of Ghana’s multi-donor development partners, a foundation he would seek to step up in the coming years of his administration.
He said Ghana is striving to localise production of finished goods from the available raw materials and is therefore spreading out the partnership net to achieve the goal with countries like Switzerland.
He said: “Switzerland is 14th in terms of investment in Ghana and I will maintain that cooperation between the two countries in my tenure of office.”
President Mahama said Spain by its geographical location has a number of historical links with Africa and he would step up the relations to achieve the debt swap, which has been on the drawing board for some time now.
He said the apart from buying oil from Ghana, Spain has been supportive to Ghana to procure aircrafts for the Ghana Air Force.
The President promised to intensify the links in the areas of trade and commerce and urged the Spanish government to leverage its investments in the country to boost the cordial relations.
On Liberia, President Mahama said socio-economic development had over the years been retarded in the West African country, on account of civil war.
He promised to supply gas to the country when the Ghana Gas Project is completed.
He said a lot of Liberians who sought refuge in Ghana during the civil war had integrated well in Ghana and that would help in creating common development platforms for the two countries.
Madam Gomez commended Ghana for her democratic credentials, which she had nurtured over the years.
She said Ghana demonstrated her political maturity to the rest of the world after the 2012 general election, the results of which was subsequently taken to the Supreme Court and yet ended with Ghanaians more united than before.
She appealed to the Ghanaian business community to invest in Spain as the two countries are working towards the promotion of trade and commercial activities in the coming years.
Mr Von Ballmoos commended Ghana for standing by his country during and after the civil war.
He said apart from contributing troops to Liberia, Ghana had also hosted a number of Liberian refugees, and training the country’s security personnel.
Mr Samadeni promised to maintain the ties he had cemented with Ghana by educating his successors on the development potentials of the country.
