University of Education admits new students

Professor Akwasi Asabre-Ameyaw, Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Education at Winneba, has appealed to the government to put trained graduate teachers in the classrooms to address shortage of teachers.

According to him, there are a large number of professionally trained teachers who remain unemployed even though a large number of classrooms in the countryside are without teachers.

Professor Asabere-Ameyaw made the appeal at the University on Saturday during the matriculation of 4,207 regular fresh students to under-go degree and diploma courses.

He appealed for special budgetary provision for UEW to help change the outlook of the University, saying the University’s campus remain the worst among the public universities.

“Road construction is capital intensive and we require the support of government in putting our roads in good shape,” he said.

Professor Asabere-Ameyaw advised the students to take their studies seriously to enable them successfully complete their programmes told them to guard against examination malpractices.

Mr C.Y. Akwaa-Mensah, Registrar of the University, administered the Matriculation Oath to the students.
