UNFPA donates hospital equipment to Ministry of Health
The United Nation Population Fund (UNPA) on Monday donated hospital equipment and vehicles worth $800,000 to the Ministry of Health to facilitate the reduction of maternal mortality.
The items were five Toyota pickups, one Toyota bus, five anaesthesia machines, 35 blood bank fridges,100 hospital beds, 10 delivery beds, 650 midwifery kits, Fistula kits, protective goggles, sterilizing drums and vacuum extractors.
Dr. Bernard Coquelin, the UNFPA Country Representative in Ghana, said the donation was in response to the request made by the Ghana Health Service and other agencies of the Ministry to ensure availability and utilisation of family planning materials.
He saide “For effective programme implementation, IT equipment such as computers and accessories have also been procured for other MDA’s such as the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and the National Population Council. ”
Miss. Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Health, received the items and expressed her gratitude to the donor for the assistance and said Volta, Ashanti and the three northern regions would each receive one pickup and some equipment from the consignment.
