Lamptey endorsed as Ketu-South MCE

The Ketu-South Municipal Assembly meeting on Monday approved Mr Pascal Lamptey, 47, a Public Servant as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE).

He polled 47 votes, representing 85 percent of the 55 votes cast.  There were eight votes against him.

The Assembly went ahead to meet, despite a reported court injunction to restrain it.

The battle of words by Assembly Members on the illegibility of the Presiding Member (PM) to preside over the meeting delayed the sitting for a considerable time until a unanimous decision to appoint Mr Dickson Agbavor to stand in as PM.

Mr Lamptey, who was the Keta Municipal Director of the Centre for National Culture (CNC), failed to get the approval of the Assembly a week earlier, getting only  33 votes, representing 63 per cent, but needed 67 per cent to sail through.

Prior to the meeting that approved him, government withdrew recognition of some government appointees and re-appointed new ones.

Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Volta Regional Minister, appealed to the Assembly Members and communities forming the municipal area to unite to speed up development.

Mr Lamptey pledged to run an “open-door administration.”

Present at the sitting were Mr Fifi Kwetey, Ketu-South MP and also Minister at the Presidency, Dzifa Gomashie, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and Mr Francis Ganyaglo, Deputy Volta Regional Minister.

There was a noticeable large armed police presence at the premises of the Assembly.
