Awutu-Senya Assembly approves budget for 2014

Madam Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has advised the Awutu-Senya Assembly to put in place programmes in accordance with the laws of the land to enhance development.

Madam Tetteh, who is also the Member of Parliament for Awutu-Senya Constituency, gave the advice at the second ordinary meeting of the third session of the Assembly at Awutu Beraku where the Assembly unanimously approved its fee fixing resolution for the year ending December 31, 2014.

The assembly, after lengthy deliberations, approved its composite budget for 2014.

Madam Tetteh said in order to make the work of assemblies more important and effective, the Government had decided to disburse their monies directly to them, hence the need for them to strengthen their operations, especially how they collected their Internally Generated Fund to supplement what they received from  Government.

She said the non-partisan nature of the district assembly was for a reason and urged the members not extend their political activities into the house since such activities retired progress and development.

Madam Tetteh, however, said the country was facing challenges but the Government was committed to executing developmental programmes and projects including road construction and school infrastructure to help better the lots of the people.

She entreated the assembly to periodically sensitize the people on the need to honour their tax obligations which would help in the execution of more developmental projects.

Mr Sampson Abby Armah Quaye, District Chief Executive, said the assembly was committed to improving basic education within the area and recommended that the district education policy should be developed to serve as a policy guideline for education delivery in the district.

He said it had come to the notice of the assembly that patronage of public health facilities within the district was decreasing due to the lack of respect for patients and unfriendly relationship between nurses and patients.

He, therefore, recommended that the District Directorate of Health Services investigated the matter and find appropriate solutions to it.
