Gomoa East Assembly aims at exceeding target
The Gomoa East District Assembly collected a total of GH¢181,700.76 out of a projected revenue of GH¢222,080.00 at the end of October 2013.
Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah, District Chief Executive (DCE) made this known during the Second Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Gomoa Afransi.
He said the Assembly would exceed its target within the next two months as it had embarked upon good policies and programmes.
The DCE said the Assembly spent an amount of GHc181,929.09 Ghana Cedis of its generated revenue, representing 99 per cent, on general activities.
According to the DCE, the Assembly had put in place some recommendations including educating people on the need to honour their tax obligations and early serving of tax notices to corporate institutions and commercial enterprises to further improve revenue generation.
Mr Ahunu-Armah said the Assembly had also started recruiting more commission collectors, establishing revenue sub-offices in strategic areas in the district, holding quarterly reviews and setting realistic targets for revenue officers.
The DCE also announced that the Assembly received an amount of GHc390,018.00 as its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund for the first quarter of the year.
He said the Assembly had allocated GHc20,000 to facilitate the construction of a Police Station at Gomoa Pomadze to help reduce the spate of armed robbery in the area.
He indicated that two new revenue collection points would be created at Gomoa Ekwamkrom and Gomoa Aboso to improve revenue mobilization.
