Hotel security-man jailed 12 months for stealing

A 19-year-old Paul Gyamfi, a security man, has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing.

The convict pleaded guilty with explanation.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Moses Kwofieh told the Half-Assini Magistrate Court presided over by Mr Hans Kpodo that the director of Green Palm Hotel in Elubo in the Jomoro District, Mr Ebenezer Kwofieh, detected theft of some items from the hotel.

He said Mr Kwofieh confronted all the workers at the hotel including the convict, but they all denied knowledge of stealing.

The prosecutors said on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, the director of the hotel realised that the security man, Gyamfi had packed all his belongings from the hotel.

Mr Kwofie then traced Gyamfi to his hometown, Sowodadzemu in the Jomoro District and a search conducted in his room revealed some of the stolen items.

Some of the items retrieved from the room included two coloured television sets, four blankets, two bed sheets, coat hanger, two garden chairs, car keys and digital camera valued at GHc1,390.00.

The matter was reported to the police and Gyamfi was arrested and prosecuted.

The prosecutor said the convict admitted stealing in his caution statement and pleaded for clemency.
