Kotoko extends league lead
Asante Kotoko put smiles back on the face of their teeming supporters by thrashing King Faisal 3-0 in an uncompromising local derby midweek Premier League game at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
Kotoko, who lost 0-2 to Ashgold last Sunday and Faisal who also won 3-1 against Edubiase started the game with much determination as they played all attacking.
Kotoko were delighted to watch in the second half as they put severe pressure on Faisal and opened the scoring in the 47mins when Yaya Mohammed’s shot was deflected into the net by defender Pios Boafo.
Seidu Bancey made it 2-0 for Kotoko in the 52mins from a penalty after Yaya Mohammed was fouled in the box. Bancey was on hand again in the 69mins when he headed home from a free kick.
Faisal undaunted made some incursions into Kotoko goal area but chances by Prince Boateng and Sulley Mohammed were wasted in the 74mins and 88mins respectively.
At Asante Bekwai Gyamfi Park, New Edubiase also whipped Amidaus Professionals 4-0.
