Gov’t must release reports on fires, plane crash, others – Bureau

The Bureau of Public Safety (BPS), a public concern organization, has added its voice to the call on government to release investigation reports of some public safety incidents in country.

The bureau mentioned in particular the April 12, 2013 police action at the Accra New Town that led to the killing  three men suspected to be armed robbers and the June 2, 2012 Boeing 727-200 (DHV 111) plane crash that led to the death of 10 people.

A statement signed by Nana Yaw Akwada, Executive Director of BPS, mentioned the rest as fire outbreaks in markets and several police actions that resulted in the killing of innocent citizens.

It said the government demonstrated its commitment to unravel the cause of the fires by accepting help from U.S. experts to determine the likely causes.

The statement said several weeks ago, some government officials made it public knowledge that the final report has been lodged with the government, but is still remains a mystery to both emergency services and the general public what the likely causes of those fires were.

The statement said Ghana’s airspace remained one of the safest in the sub-region, and it was important that the Ministry of Transport, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and other relevant stakeholders work at maintaining such a record.
