Newly built Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital lacks doctors
The absence of enough doctors at the newly constructed Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital is hampering effective operation of the facility.
Dr Richard S. Anongura, Medical Director of Hospital made this known when the Minister of Health, Ms Shirley Ayitey paid a working visit to the hospital in Winneba at the weekend.
He said the hospital that needs about 16 doctors, made up of specialists and other categories is currently run by only three doctors.
Dr Anongura said the situation is making it extremely difficult to handle huge referral and accidents cases.
According to the medical Director a number of requests made to the Ministry and Ghana Health Service for more doctors are yet to receive attention.
He said the situation has compelled management to recruit doctors to render 24 hours services to save lives.
Ms Ayitey said the hospital has been sited at strategic point close to an international highway, where accidents could occur.
She gave the assurance that more doctors would be posted to the hospital early next year.
Ms Ayitey said the country would receive 80 foreign doctors from Europe to reduce doctor deficit facing the country.
Dr Ebenezer Appiah Denkyira, Director General of Ghana Health Service said the misunderstanding over who should head the Trauma and Specialist hospital would be resolved immediately.
Dr George Prah, Medical Superintendent of Winneba Government Hospital, conducted the Minister and her entourage round to the stores of the facility that was gutted by fire recently.
