New chartered bankers graduate
Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang, Minister of Education has commended the Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB), for producing the needed human capital for the running of the banking and finance industry.
“The government appreciates the efforts of the institute in producing the needed human capital for the running of our banking and finance industry,” she stressed.
Prof Agyemang said this in a speech read on her behalf on Saturday during the fourth congregation and graduation ceremony of CIB in Accra for 333 graduates.
Out of the number 116 graduated in Professional Banking, 178 received Executive Certificate in Banking Operations with the remaining 39 being Intermediate graduates.
Prof Agyemang lauded CIB for having a rich subject outline that gives in-depth knowledge to enable students have an understanding of the banking sector and meeting the very critical areas of the national economy.
She told the graduates that the acquisition of the certificates places enormous responsibility on them, as customers and stakeholders’ expectations of the depth of their knowledge in banking and finance is raised to a much higher level.
“It will indeed be a tragedy for you to consider the receipt of these certificates as being the end of your education. This is only recognition that you have acquired a certain level of competence necessary for today’s challenges,” she said.
She urged the graduates to set their direction with a positive attitude, strong spirit and strong work ethic.
Mr Anthony Yaw Oppong, Chief Executive Officer of CIB said the institute is poised to remain fulcrum around which professional banking education would revolve.
He said as part of the institutes mandate to build human capacity for the industry, the institute ran short term on-the-job training programmes.
“This year four international, 12 local and two in-house training programmes were ran”, he said.
Mr Oppong said the institute is the only one among the Alliance of African Institute of Bankers that produces its own textbooks.
He said currently the school is reviewing its syllabus to make it more relevant to meet the needs of the industry.
Prizes were awarded to 10 deserving students who excelled.
The CIB, Ghana was registered in 1978 under the Professional Bodies Decree of 1973 (NRCD 143).
The Institute serves as a professional body for bankers and financial institutions with an aim to provide stimulus for the development of competent and more qualified human resources that will enable the banks to offer efficient and competitive services to meet modern-day sophisticated demands and satisfaction.
