Aflao Police needs speed guns – NRSC
Mr Sebastian Akyeampong, Volta Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), has appealed to the Police Administration to urgently provide the police in Aflao with speed guns.
He said the absence of the instrument was inhibiting efforts of the police officers at checking speed limits of vehicles plying the Accra-Aflao Highway.
Mr Akyeampong made the appeal after he had led a team of road safety officials from Accra and the Volta Region to the southern part of the Volta Region, where the team interacted with road users.
He said the Aflao District Police could not continue to rely on speed guns from the Regional Police Headquarters and called for quick intervention.
Apart from the Regional Police Headquarters, no district in the region has a speed gun.
Mr Akyeampong said Aflao’s location was strategic and, therefore, needed special attention so that knocking down of pedestrians and the indiscipline on the road would be curtailed.
“We all know that road transport is our main means of transport in Ghana and a good number of investors use the Aflao-Accra Highway, so if we continue to record high numbers of road crashes there, we will be scaring investors away,” he said.
Mr Akyeampong said though there were defects on certain portions of the road, accidents that happened there were due to over-speeding.
He reiterated the commitment of the NRSC to ensure safety on the roads and commended the team from Accra for the support.
