MMDAs urged to control spending
Dr. Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Upper West Regional Minister, has appealed to Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to exercise firm control over their financial expenditures.
This, he noted, would prevent certain external elements from manipulating the system for their own selfish benefits.
Dr. Nsoh made the appeal when he visited the Wechiau Assembly in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, to interact with the Assembly staff and to inspect some completed and on-going projects.
The Regional Minister said the practice where such external elements manipulate and coerce some Assemblies into signing projects, and the money deducted at source, must stop.
He said projects to be funded by the Assembly must be properly thought through, by Assembly members, the District Chief Executive (DCE) and Staff before approval and subsequent release of funds for their implementation.
Dr. Nsoh said the Departments of Social Welfare, Community Development, Parks and Gardens, among others. were key departments that were highly under resourced with the workers constantly complaining.
He, therefore, challenged workers in such departments to shift from the numerous sitting and waiting for support from central government to doing something extra that could bring in funds to enable them effect the necessary changes in society.
Mr. Adamu Dasanah, Wa West DCE took the Minister round to inspect some projects in the district, including office accommodation for the District Education Directorate, accommodation for the District Medical Director and some Nurses quarters all in Wechiau.
The Minister also inspected an ultra-modern Dining Hall facility for the Lassia-Tuolu Senior High School (SHS) in the district.
