Gov’t commissions new electrification projects in Western Region

ElectricityMr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minister of Energy and Petroleum, on Monday commissioned electrification projects in some communities in the Ahanta West and Nzema East Municipality of the Western Region.

Some of the beneficiary communities included Egyan, Akornu, Domunli, Nuabasa, Kukuaville, Jomoro-Ashiem, Asuboi, Animakrom, Adelazo, Seremanu and Nsamaba.

Mr. Buah admonished the people to make profitable use of the electricity, by engaging in business ventures that would improve their livelihood.

He implored the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to undertake sensitization programmes on energy consumption and dangers associated with electricity usage in all the beneficiary communities.

He said government was committed to supply electricity to communities that are not connected to the national grid by 2016, as part of the Better Ghana Agenda.

Nana Amoako Anua the Third,  Chief of Egyan, expressed gratitude to the government for fulfilling its promise, and urged the people to support the government in its bid to provide them with critical social amenities to enhance their standards of living.

Mr Arthur Simpson,  representative of Technology Management Group, the Local Contractors of Weldy Lamont that executed the electrification project,  said the company is undertaking the project in three regions, namely Western,Central and Brong-Ahafo.

He said 1,500 communities in the Western Region would be connected to the national grid at the end of the project, and that over 2,000 communities in the three regions would benefit from the electrification project.

He asked for continued support and co-operation of the various communities that are billed to be connected, to ensure timely execution of the project. which is  estimated to cost 350 million dollars, which is part of the three-billion-dollar Chinese loan facility.
