Brong-Ahafo Hospital to bury 35 unidentified dead bodies
The authorities of the Brong-Ahafo Regional Hospital in Sunyani has planned to give 35 unidentified dead bodies mass burial if relatives do not show up to collect them by Monday, December 30.
A public notice signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Christopher Tawiah, Regional Police Public Relations Officer and copied to Ghana News Agency, on Thursday in Sunyani informed the public that the bodies had been at the Hospital’s morgue since 2010.
The notice said the dead bodies that include male adults, female adults and children have been unidentified and all efforts to get these bodies identified did not yield any good results.
It said the Hospital Authorities had decided to decongest the mortuary for maintenance works to be undertaken.
It said: “The bad state of the bodies and their offensive odour emanating from them,” poses health hazards to both the public and workers at the Hospital, particularly the morgue attendants.
The notice stated it had therefore become necessary to bury them to avoid epidemic, adding that those bodies had exceeded “the recommended corona order of 28 days for paupers”.
It therefore advised the public to contact the Police Command for identification of their dead bodies before the scheduled date.
