Assembly tasked to be pro-active in revenue mobilisation
Mr James Atta Kakra Baidoe, Nzema-East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has charged assembly members to step up efforts at revenue mobilisation to speed up the development of the area.
He expressed dissatisfaction about the poor revenue performance of the assembly.
Mr Baidoe said the total Internal Generation Fund as of October was GH¢90,397.11 as compared to GH¢ 96,076.33 in 2012, reflecting a fall of five per cent.
The MCE was addressing the 3rd ordinary meeting of the 3rd session of the assembly at Axim in the Western Region.
Mr Baidoe told the house that the assembly received two trenches of its share of the District Assemblies Common fund amounting to GH¢357,109.24. It is yet to receive the third trench to earmark it for developmental projects for 2014.
He said however that the Assembly also received GH¢190,144.62 from the Urban Development Fund (UDG) apart from the common fund, which helped it to implement projects.
Under the UDG, the assembly was able to construct a one unit kindergarten block with ancillary facilities at Axim Ahle-Sunna Primary school and a three-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities.
The Assembly also constructed a-12-seater water closet toilet and the mechanisation of borehole and water distribution at Ayisakro Light Industrial area all at a cost of GH¢299,671.81.
The MCE said in spite of the numerous challenges confronting the assembly, in terms of revenue mobilization, it is doing well to execute developmental projects.
Mr Baidoe however appealed to members to work together as a team to push the development agenda of the area forward.
Mr Assuah Benie, the Presiding Member urged members to sensitise people to pay their taxes and other forms of royalties to generate revenue for the assembly.
