GNFS urges public to obey fire safety practices

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has advised the public to adhere to basic fire safety practices, which could go a long way to curb the incidence of fire outbreaks during the yuletide.

It said as part of management strategies to reduce fire incidents, the public is reminded of the national emergency number of 192, which is only available on Vodafone, Airtel and Expresso networks.

The GNFS gave the advice in statement signed by Dr Albert Brown Gaise, Director of Operations of the service.

It said the attention of management attention has been drawn to the inability of a section of the public to access the emergency phone number during emergencies.

The statement said extreme caution must be exercised in handling naked light and other combustible materials such as candles, matches, fire crackers as well as electrical Christmas decorations to avoid any unfortunate fires.

It urged the public to ensure that all gadgets that are not meant to stay on must be switched off.

“The usage of gas cookers must be handled with extreme care and all industries and residential premises must ensure good and safe housekeeping practices during this Christmas and New Year holidays,” it said.
