Court jails two for stealing cocoa beans
A Tarkwa circuit court has sentenced two illegal miners, Richmond Tetteh, 26 and Richard Appiah, 25, to 6 months imprisonment each for stealing four bags of dried cocoa beans valued 840 Ghana cedis belonging to Moses Tetteh, a cocoa purchasing clerk at Bepoase.
They pleaded.
Prosecuting Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided over by Mr. Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on December 15 last year the convicts stole four bags of dried cocoa beans on the verandah of his cocoa shed and kept them in a nearby bush.
The Prosecutor said when the complainant visited the shed the next day he detected the theft of the four bags of the cocoa and informed other purchasing clerks within the village and Prestea to help him arrest the culprits.
Inspector Paddy said on December 17, Richmond attempted to sell the stolen items but he was arrested and he mentioned Richard as his accomplice.
