Ethiopian Airlines cargo crew out of hospital
The three-member crew of the Ethiopian Airlines cargo aircraft that was involved in an accident at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, Saturday January 10, 2015 are all out of hospital.
A statement from Ethiopian Airlines copied to ghanabusinessnews.com Sunday January 11, 2015 says the crew after medically checked “are now resting in their hotel.”
“The Boeing 737-400 freighter aircraft with registeration number ET-AQV, operating ASKY flight number KP4016 from Lome to Accra skidded off the runway with flat tyres,” the airline had said yesterday.
An official of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority told ghanabusinessnews.com that the aircraft suffered substantial damage and would have to be replaced.
“The left wing is broken and one of its engines is also damaged,” the official said.
Other reports note that the aircraft “came to a rest with a separated right hand main gear and engine. The nose was damaged by what seems to be the separated number 2 engine.”
Meanwhile, an official of the Ghana Airports Authority said after preliminary investigations, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority has taken over investigations into the accident.
