The Eastern Regional Vice Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Mr Isaac Opare-Addo, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being partly responsible for the current energy crises of the country.
He described the recent press conference held by the NPP on the current energy crisis and the threat to go on demonstration against the ruling government as nothing but an attempt by the party to throw dust into the eyes of the public to cover its guilt.
Mr Opare-Addo at a media conference at Koforidua questioned the where about of the power generators that the party claimed to have installed to solve the energy crisis during its tenure.
He said, ‘if those generators were not really toys as described by the party’s own energy experts, they would have helped to solve the problems that the country was currently facing.
Mr Opare-Addo said there were fuel generators in Ghana in the 1960s but when the then CPP Government realized the challenge it posed to the development of the country, it went in for the most modern power option of time, hence the Akosombo Dam, which had played a major role in the country’s energy mix till now.
The various governments after the first CPP Government’s overthrow had been adding to what they inherited, he said.
He said, the NPP Government just failed the country when it had the opportunity to help solve the energy crises and that had contributed to the current situation.
Mr Opare-Addo said the NPP, could, therefore, not escape blame for the current energy crisis.
