Committee presents preliminary report on Ethiopian cargo plane crash

Ethiopian cargo2The committee tasked to investigate the crash of an Ethiopian cargo plane at the Kotoka International Airport on January 10 has presented its preliminary report to Mrs Dzifa Attivor, the Minister of Transport.

Presenting the 16- page report Captain Samuel Thompson, who was the Chairman of the Committee, said the detailed report would be presented to the Minister after a comprehensive analysis of the preliminary one in about three months’ time.

He said the committee would not want to speculate on the real cause(s) of the crash until a thorough study of the preliminary report.

According to the preliminary report, the aircraft touched down at 1105 hours and not 1109 hours as speculated.

Captain Thompson said the plane veered off the runway and went for about 800 metres before crashing and catching fire.

He said according to their preliminary investigations, there was no indication that the plane was not properly maintained as they discovered that the maintenance records of the aircraft were up to date.

Mrs Attivor expressed her appreciation to the seven-member committee for heeding to the one-month deadline, adding that the cause(s) of the crash would be made available to Ghanaians after the in-depth analysis.
