NMC, NCA collaborate to regulate media landscape
The National Media Commission (NMC) in collaboration with the National Communication Authority (NCA)are exploring synergies for efficient regulation of the media landscape.
The collaborative efforts, especially in the broadcasting industry, covered the broadcasting bill and digital migration.
Mr Paarock Van Percy, Director General of NCA, at a joint meeting in Accra, said the two institutions were sending strong signals to the media that regulations were still in place.
He said the two institutions were going to be strict in the compliance and implementation of these regulations coupled with broadcasting ethics.
Mr George Sarpong, the Executive Secretary, NMC, said the collaboration between these institutions was to ensure that the country took advantage of the benefits of emerging technology, while avoiding the pitfalls it could introduce.
“Our meeting is, therefore, to prepare us to meet the challenges of broadcasting regulation in a complex technological world,” he said.
He said the NMC and the NCA would deliberate on these and other issues and chart the way forward fostering closer working relations towards efficient broadcasting regulation in Ghana.
Mr Kabral Blay-Amihere, Chairman of NMC, called on the media to exhibit professionalism in the performance of their duties.
He said the conduct of the media should not in any way force authorities to introduce stiffer sanctions.
