Trotro drivers on strike over seatbelt

Some trotro drivers in the Sekondi- Takoradi Metropolis on Wednesday packed their vehicles to protest against the DVLA directive that every commercial vehicle must have seatbelt.

The protesters are saying that the DVLA was frustrating their business with this new order.

The DVLA says commercial vehicles must have seat belts before their road worthy is done or renewed but some of the drivers are arguing that they are only town drivers and that long distance vehicles must rather be made to have them.

Mr. Julius Kwofie, resident at Kweikuma, said he had waited over two hours looking for a car to his workplace.

A visit to the some stations saw lots of stranded passengers waiting for commercial vehicles.
