KKD rape case goes to jury trial

The State has requested for a jury to be constituted in the trial of Kwasi Kyei Darkwa, a.k.a KKD, a broadcaster, who is standing trial for alleged rape.

Mrs Malike Woanyah, an Assistant State Attorney, told an Accra Fast Track High Court that since the case was on indictment, a jury could hear the matter.

“We wish to take a firm date for hearing to commence and with the composition of the jury,” she added.

Mr Anthony Forson, the counsel for KKD, told that court that he felt cheated unfairly by prosecution, because he had prepared for the commencement of the case today.

He said the prosecution knew very well that the matter was starting today and should have put in place measures for that matter.

The court presided over by Mr Bright Mensah adjourned the case to April 22 on the request of the state.

KKD has been charged for allegedly raping a 19-year lady, an offence he has denied.

A human rights court in Accra granted him bail on humanitarian grounds in the sum of GH₵ 20,000 with two sureties.

The Airport Police arrested KKD on December 27 last year, after the lady reported that he had raped her in a hotel washroom.
