Kingson stops Kotoko

Goalkeeper Richard Kingson maintained his unbeaten run in the League as he led Great Olympics to settle for 0-0 score-line against defending champions, Asante Kotoko, in a First Capital Plus Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.

For the Porcupine Warriors, the result jolted their dreams of pushing for a Champions League spot and pressure is mounting on them in their quest to defend their title.

Kotoko, eliminated from the CAF Champions League last week, right from the blast of the whistle probed for the opener, attacking their opponents from all angles.

The Olympics goalie would save his side from conceding in the first minute as he parried to corner a Jordan Opoku well-taken thunderbolt.

The resultant kick was wasted, but Kotoko pressed their opponents thereon, and in the 15th and 18th minutes, goalkeeper Kingson again was called to duty as he prevented Atta Kusi’s close-range shot from entering the net.

Olympics, pinned down to their own half, made occasional counter-breaks, but the attack pivoted around veteran Godwin Attram and Atuquaye Francis were wasteful upfront as they missed in succession the few chances that fell their path.

Kotoko raised the tempo of the game in the second half and came close to scoring in the 64th and 90th minutes, but Ivorian import Ahmed Toure, would be denied from hitting the target with some brilliant saves from Kingson.
