Indonesia Supreme Court rejects appeals from Ghanaian, French on death row

The Ghanaian man sentenced to death by firing squad for drug trafficking in Indonesia has lost an appeal against his sentence at the Indonesia Supreme Court.

The Court turned down appeals for judicial review by Ghanaian Martin Anderson and Frenchman Serge Areski Atlaoui on Tuesday April 21, 2015. The two are among 10 convicted for drug offences awaiting execution by firing squad.

The three-judge panel rejected Atloui’s appeal because it found no mistake in the previous verdicts by lower courts, while Anderson failed to present new evidence to support his appeal, according to reports from Indonesia media citing a spokesman for the court who gave his name as Suhadi.

Atlaoui and Anderson are among 10 drug smugglers whose planned executions last month were adjourned due to last-minute appeals. The others are three Nigerian men, two Australian men, two men from Brazil and Indonesia, and a Filipino woman.
