European Business Organisation launched in Ghana

EUThe European Union (EU) has launched the European Business Organisation in Ghana (EBO- Ghana) to deepen the trade and business ties between Europe and Ghana.

It would also provide a common platform for discussion and development of European businesses and trade relations with Ghana.

Launching the logo of the organisation, President John Dramani Mahama, expressed gratitude to the EU for the contribution towards the development of the country.

The President said the initiative shows that the EU is interested in developing the private sector, adding this would build an economy which is convenient for all.

“We look forward for more collaboration since businesses are a vital part to the development of every economy,” President Mahama said.

Mr Nico Van Staalduinen, Executive Director of EBO-Ghana, said EBO-Ghana is the sole network representing EU-wide business interests in non-EU countries to enable them have one voice of European Businesses outside the Union.

Mr Staalduinen said EBO-Ghana wants to be part of the business solutions in Ghana by offering their contributions in these challenging economic times.

He said Ghanaian products have a comparative advantage over many products produced elsewhere and thus the Organisation could be used to facilitate export from Ghana to the EU.

Mr William Hanna, the European Union Ambassador, said the initiative would bring the two markets of EU and ECOWAS together, encourage more investment in Ghana, assist in the diversification of exports and add value to the supply chain and thereby create job opportunities.

He said the EU is committed to continue its strong support to Ghana in pursuing its development agenda and preparing new programmes in the areas of social protection, employment and skills development.
