Ghana to get Africa’s first floating LNG terminal – Endeavour Energy

Gas infrastructure at AtuaboAn Australian electricity company, Endeavour Energy says it has appointed BMT Asia Pacific (BMT) as owners engineer and lead design consultant for the development of a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) storage and regasification vessel offshore for Ghana, the publication, Offshore has reported.

According to the company the facility “would send supplies to the Ghana 1000 Gas to Power Project, and could also be Africa’s first LNG import terminal.”

Endeavour names General Electric, Eranove, and Sage Petroleum as being part of the project.

“The project could supply over 1,000 MW to Ghana’s national grid once completed,” the company said without indicating any timeline.

Endeavour names another company, Excelerate Energy as the company to provide the FLNG and is additionally providing assistance in locating the FLNG terminal infrastructure.

It says BMT will work with it and Excelerate on front end engineering design studies that include operability assessments, infrastructure design, and optimization for the supply of gas from the offshore, moored Floating Storage & Regasification Unit (FSRU) via subsea infrastructure to the onshore gas turbines at Aboadze.

In March, Shell and the Ghana 1000 consortium entered into exclusive negotiations regarding a long-term supply agreement for liquefied natural gas.

The five-year project is expected to boost Ghana’s power generation capacity by 50% from the current 2,000 MW installed capacity, it says.
