Berekum Chelsea beats Asante Kotoko 3-0
Defending champions, Asante Kotoko, recorded their worst home defeat in recent times, losing 0-3 to visiting Berekum Chelsea in the First Capital Plus Premier League Match Day 22 fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, on Sunday.
The defeat dealt a big blow to the teeming supporters of the Porcupine Warriors, and in the course of the game some of them had no choice than to leave the Stadium in disbelief.
Chelsea’s nimble-footed Kofi Owusu led the demolition exercise, hitting a brace on the afternoon to put the homers to sleep, and with this results, the Porcupine Warriors had sunk to the relegation zone, occupying the 10th position on 29 points.
Owusu broke the deadlock on 29th minutes from a corner kick after Kotoko had dominated the match in the initial stages.
The Porcupine Warriors should blame themselves for squandering some decent chances in the 10th and 21st minutes and it was Obed Owusu who looked jittery on both occasions, missing the chances from close range in counter-attacks.
Owusu would punish Kotoko again in the 79th minute after he profited from sloppy marking on the part of the Kotoko defence to beat advancing goalie, Eric Ofori-Antwi.
The Chelsea and former King Faisal striker who was lurking in the vital area pounced on a loose ball, took a solo effort and seeing the goalkeeper come out of the goal line, shot the ball past him.
Kotoko’s Ivorian import and marksman, Ahmed Toure, was introduced into the game in the second half, but a tactically-disciplined Chelsea defence would thwart most of his efforts at goal.
The visitors stepped up their game to register the third goal three minutes to full time and it was Asiwome Fumador who was on target for Chelsea, and at this stage, some supporters of Kotoko who could stand the humiliation trooped out of the Stadium in disappointment.
