The Korle-bu Teaching Hospital has denied claims by a section of the British media that the autopsy report on a British woman suspected to have been murdered in Ghana was missing.

Some news outlets reported early in July 2015 that one Detective Sergeant Divine Tormuh admitted in court that the report could not be found at the morgue of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

These facts, the reports said were known when the husband of Charmain Speirs, Pastor Eric Isaiah Adusah appeared in court in the UK somewhere in March.

He added that the pathologist who prepared the document was now in Cuba on training, the report said.

Ms. Speirs was discovered face-down in a bath by hotel staff. It is believed she had been lying there for four days.

Initial reports say she died of heroin overdose.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the hospital, Mustafa Salifu told ghanabusinessnews.com on the phone that there are no truths in the claims of missing autopsy report.

“The report is not missing. This is a corona’s case and it is only the corona that can request for the report, and if he does it will be given to him,” he said.

He also told ghanabusinessnews.com that the doctor who performed the autopsy has been back from Cuba and is at post in Ghana.

Meanwhile, another report carried by some British media is claiming with some alarm that the accused paid for the cost of the autopsy.

But checks by ghanabusinessnews.com at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital showed that while family members are required to pay for autopsy, it is not possible for a report to be missing because as one source said “there is a log book in which all causes of deaths are recorded.”

According to Mr. Salifu, in corona’s cases as in this particular case, family members do not pay for the cost of autopsy because “in that case, it is the state that takes over,” he said.

But some British news outlet report that the accused had told the victim’s mother that he had paid $1000 for the report and that he had been unhappy with the results.
