Ghana to host annual WAANSA conference on small arms
Ghana is to host Civil Society Organizations under the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) to take stock of peace and security issues in the ECOWAS region and the role its members play.
The WAANSA conference, slated for September 3 and 4, on the theme: “Peace and Security in West Africa: The Role of Civil Society,” will be addressed by the ECOWAS Commissioner for Peace and Security to share with civil society the state of affairs regarding peace and security of West Africa.
The Association of Journalists for Peace and Security in West Africa, key partners, will also attend the conference, which will also serve as an opportunity to assess its role and progress, its constitution as well as renew its leadership for its future operations.
In a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra, signed by Mr Baffour D. Amoa, WAANSA President, the network said civil society plays a critical role in the ECOWAS Peace and Security Architecture.
According to the statement, the conference will also provide a platform for representatives of the National Commission on Small Arms (NATCOM) to dialogue with CSOs and review relationships established under the ECOWAS Convention.
