Government to pay newly posted nurses October ending
Government has learnt with utter disappointment and surprise the decision of the Coalition of nurses to declare a strike, concerning their salary arrears, particularly at a time when they are being engaged by government.
A statement issued in Accra by Mr Baba Jamal, Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Relations said at a meeting held on Friday October 2, government assured that all unpaid newly posted nurses that they were being processed to be paid through the IPPD system at the end of October.
It said government also assured the leadership of the Coalition of Psychiatric Nurses that their salary arrears would be inputted on the IPPD system latest by Tuesday, October 6 for them to be paid.
“Accordingly government will not countenance any disregard for both the Labour Law and government as employer,” it said.
The statement said consequently, all the psychiatric nurses, who are currently on the illegal strike, should call off the industrial action and return to work or forfeit their October salaries.
It said it must be noted that all nurses, who fail to work for the month of October following the strike would not be paid for the month of October.
“Government hereby appeals to all nurses on strike to go back to work immediately, in order to restore industrial harmony within the Health Sector,” the statement added.
