President Mahama maintains Amissah-Arthur as running mate
President John Dramani Mahama on has retained Vice President Kwesi Amissah-Arthur as his Vice Presidential candidate for Elections 2016.
He presented the Vice President’s name to the National Executive Council and Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
In a ceremony at the NDC office, President Mahama said: “I must go into the 2016 elections with a running mate. I have had no difficulties settling on my hardworking Vice President as my running mate for the second term.”
The programme was also attended by ministers of state, the NDC party hierarchy and the Majority Leadership in Parliament.
President Mahama said Vice President Amissah-Arthur had worked hard in the past years, a situation that encouraged him to maintain him as the Vice Presidential candidate in the 2016 general elections.
Weeks ago there were groups in the NDC calling for the selection of candidates of their choice in the party as President Mahama’s running mate.
The nomination of Vice President Amisah-Arthur therefore put to rest all speculations about the choice of the President.
