Vicente del Bosque to retire after Euro 2016
Spain’s football coach Vicente del Bosque has said he is planning to retire after next summer’s Euro 2016 finals in France.
Del Bosque, 64, guided Spain to victory at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 finals, though he apparently was close to throwing in the towel after La Furia Roja flopped at the 2014 World Cup.
“My retirement is close. If everything goes according to plan it (Euro 2016) will be the end for me,” he said.
“I am a man of the (Spanish football) federation and I have to speak to the federation before taking a final decision.”
Del Bosque took over from Luis Aragones seven years ago, after the latter had guided Spain to triumph at Euro 2008.
Spain are bidding to become the first team to win the three consecutive European Championship titles. They will be looking for their fourth overall win in France, having first won it in 1964.
