Chief urges political parties to avoid inflammatory remarks

Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyemang Badu II, Omanhene of Dormaa, has appealed to followers of the two major political parties in the country to avoid inflammatory statements, as the country prepares for Election 2016.

He said political tolerance is required from supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) if Ghana could deepen and consolidate her democratic gains.

Osagyefo Agyemang-Badu made the appeal when addressing the chiefs and people of Dormaa-Ahenkro at an end of year party by the traditional council at Dormaa-Ahenkro.

The Paramount Chief emphasised that in every democratic system of governance, everybody has the right and privilege to join a political party of his or her choice.

This, he, said, must not create enmity between political party opponents that could threaten national peace and erode the country’s democratic gains.

He expressed the need for supporters and members of the various political parties to avoid unnecessary confrontations, politics of insults as well as attitudes and behaviour that could infuriate tempers.

Osagyefo Agyemang-Badu II observed that the NPP, NDC and other political parties are all yearning for political power to facilitate accelerated national development.

He said none of these political parties could speed up the process of development in an atmosphere of chaos and instability.

The Omanhene therefore entreated Ghanaians to respect the views of each other and not to allow partisan politics to divide them.
