World football governing body FIFA has confirmed that General Secretary Jerome Valcke has had his suspension from the game extended by 45 days.

On Tuesday January 5, 2016, FIFA said the investigatory chamber of its ethics committee recommended imposing a sanction of a nine-year ban and a fine of 100,000 Swiss Francs ($99,000) on Valcke for a number of offences, and had passed his case to the adjudicatory chamber, chaired by Hans-Joachim Eckert.

Valcke’s initial 90-day suspension, imposed in October, expired on January 5, 2016.

In July, Valcke said he expected to leave FIFA when a new president is elected to replace Joseph Blatter, who is facing an eight-year ban, at an extraordinary congress next month.

Valcke, a close confidante of Blatter, has been secretary general since 2007 and has previously denied any wrongdoing.
