Mrs Charlotte Osei, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, (EC), has given the assurance that, the Commission would be delivering credible elections in this year’s presidential and parliamentary polls.
She said the EC is committed to provide transparent, inclusive and credible elections and it is working hard to make that vision comes into reality.
Mrs Osei made this known at a news briefing organised by the Institute of Democratic Governance in Accra at the instance of the Kofi Annan Foundation’s Electoral Integrity Initiative.
She said the Commission would continue to uphold the rule of law and create a level playing field for all the political parties.
She said no political party or pressure group could stampede the EC in the discharge of its constitutional duties.
Professor AtahiruJ ega, the immediate past Chairman of the Nigerian Electoral Commission, noted that there is tension and polarisation, which need to be addressed by all election stakeholders.
He said Ghana has the enviable record of holding peaceful, free and fair elections and it is important that stakeholders work together to minimise the tension and polarisation to add more value to the upcoming general election.
Prof Pat Merloe of the National Democratic Institute, USA called on all political competitors and other stakeholders to work together for a successful elections outcome in Ghana.
