AngloGold Ashanti donates items to farmers

The management of Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Limited on Friday presented farm products worth GH¢40,000 to beneficiaries of oil palm, vegetables and animal husbandry project dubbed “Hand-In-Hand” at Adieyie near Tarkwa.

The items included 7,500 improved oil palm seedlings, improved vegetable seeds, maize seed fertilizers, Wellington boots, wheat bran, weedicides, pesticides, watering cans, machetes and high Knapsack Spraying Machines.

Mr David Kwesi Renner, Managing Director of Anglogold, presenting the items advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items to increase food production in the community.

He urged the youth in the community to undertake farming especially the project to improve their living standards.

Mr Renner said management had so far invested more than two million dollars in the project since 2004 and more than 2,000 people had benefited.

He noted that misapplication of the inputs had been their major challenge since some of the products given to the farmers were not used effectively.

Ms Christiana Cobbinah, Tarkwa Municipal Chief Executive, appealed to management of Anglogold Ashanti Limited to create more job opportunities for the youth, especially in training and employment.

Mr Budu Koomson, a staff of Ministry of Food and Agriculture, called on the farmers to seek advice from MOFA for assistance in case of difficulties.

Nana Sampson Cudjoe, Chief of Adieyie who received the items, thanked the management for their kind gesture and urged them to endeavour to assist the people to improve their living standards.
