Police arrest and detain woman trafficking cocaine

The Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit in the Ashanti Region has arrested and detained a woman caught with 499 wraps of a powdered substance suspected to be cocaine.

Martha Osei, 25, was seized when a commercial vehicle on which she was carrying the hard drug, enroute to her Manso-Aframso hometown in the Amansie West District, was intercepted at the Bekwai Roundabout in Kumasi.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Jeremiah Alale, Commander of the Unit, told journalists that this happened on Easter Sunday (March 27) at about 13:00 hours.

She had concealed the whitish substance in an apartment in her hand bag and this was uncovered during a search.

He said the officers acted upon a tip off, adding that, she would be arraigned as soon as they were done with their investigations.

ASP Alale appealed for increased public support by way of useful leads to arrest and bring to justice those dealing in illicit drugs.
