MCE queries over 60 Assembly staff for failing to participate in Sanitation Day
The New Juaben Municipal Assembly has set up a sanitation court to facilitate the prosecution of all sanitation offences including absenteeism and non-participation in the monthly observation of the National Sanitation Day (NSD) exercise.
Mr Kwabena Okyere- Kusi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), dropped the hint to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) when he sent out queries to over 60 senior and junior officers of the Assembly for their failure to participate in the April 2, edition of the National Sanitation Day Exercise.
The query signed by the MCE asked the defaulting staff to provide tenable reasons for their absence in the once-a-month mass cleaning exercise or face a disciplinary body, as a first step.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), the MCE said the action kick-starts the Assembly’s disciplinary measures to rein-in absenteeism in the all-important national exercise instituted to environmental sanitation in the communities.
“As a Municipal Assembly, it fell within our remit to manage sanitation in the Municipality and members of staff must be exemplary in pioneering efforts in that regard to send a positive signal to the public”’ he said.
The MCE noted that the Assembly spent hugely on sanitation and waste management and called for the need for all to support efforts for a cleaner environment by increasing patronage in NSD, cautioning that “defaulters will not be spared”.
