Webb faces life ban from football in FIFA corruption case

Former FIFA vice-president Jeffrey Webb faces being banned from football for life after the adjudicatory chamber of the world governing body’s ethics committee opened proceedings against him, FIFA said Wednesday.

The case is continuing based on a preliminary report from the ethics committee’s investigatory chamber which recommended a “life-long ban from all football-related activities” for multiple violations of the FIFA code of ethics.

Webb, formerly president of the North, Central American and Caribbean Association CONCACAF, pleaded guilty in a New York court to racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy last year.

FIFA is currently pursuing Webb and others in the United States for “tens of millions of dollars” in restitution related to the corruption charges faced by several former football executives.

The claim covers losses for salaries, funds diverted to the defendants’ pockets and damage to its reputation, intellectual property, and business relationships.
