Learning Chinese language yields job opportunities – Official
Learning the Chinese Language in the present age has become very profitable because of the many benefits that go with it, a Chinese official has said.
Many Chinese companies are currently working out partnerships with their Ghanaian counterparts because the companies often need Ghanaian employees who would serve as intermediaries and facilitate the businesses.
Dr. Meilian Mei, Director of the Confucius Institute, at the University of Ghana, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview, that beyond the very fruitful socio-economic relations between Ghana and China, there were many bright prospects for future relations.
Dr. Mei said while the business activities held great potential for mutual gain, business was best done between partners who had a good understanding for each other, and that could be achieved by breaking the language and culture barrier.
“Several Chinese companies have called in search of Ghanaians with a good knowledge of the Chinese Language,” Dr. Mei said.
“Many of these companies are looking for people who could speak both English and Chinese.”
Dr. Mei said already, some students had gained employment with Chinese companies and were earning decent salaries as a result of the lingo advantage.
She said the Institute offered courses in Chinese Language proficiency, Business Chinese, Chinese classes for Chinese children in Ghana, among other things.
She said the conducive socio-economic environment in Ghana combined with the good bilateral relations had opened up the country to Chinese trade and commerce, which was fast streaming in.
The Confucius Institute is co-hosted by the University of Ghana and the Zhejiang University of Technology in China.
It was established in May 2013, and started running programmes in April 2014.
